Fear Of Malice

Fear Of Malice - the malice series 2
By Karen Fenech

This picks up where the Breath of Malice left off, it is a little slow pace but still an exciting filled with mystery and danger. When one of their own is caught red handed leaning over a dead body covered in blood and his knife in the man’s chest puts Riley under arrest for a murder he said he didn’t do.  This leaves Sam and Paige on the hunt for a killer as the stumble across some evidence that takes them back 8 years to another murder of one of their own.  As they unravel all the clues they find the picture is much bigger than they ever would have thought.  The hunt is on for a killer with much bigger plans and time is running out.

Paige has been through so much as she fights to keep her job, the man she loves and so much more.  The powers that be want to take her out of the field and put her behind a deck because of the injuries she sustained while on the job hunting down a serial killer. Her disability keeps her from chasing down the bad guy. Her foot might not be up to par but there is nothing wrong with her mind and her ability to put them behind bars where they need to be. Sam is putting up one heck of a fight to keep her on his team but the head boss is putting up as big of a fight. Paige has to prove not only to them but to herself that she can still do her job. Sam doing his best to keep her safe but something are out of his hands as the killer gets near the danger is bigger.

Sam has it coming from all directions from his boss, Paige, now his friend and agent is behind bars for a murder he didn’t commit.  As they chase down the leads it brings them closer to home then they ever want to be.  More than one life is on the line with Paige right in the middle of the battle.

The author gives you a very entertaining read that holds your interest, it moves at a steady pace filled with mystery. I never would have guesses who the killer was or all that he was hiding. Paige really has so much against her I sure hope all that she pulls off on this case gives her what she needs not only for herself but her bosses to show she can still do her job. It was a hard book to put down leaving me in a hurry to get to the end. I really felt so sorry for the killer’s wife and all she had to deal with. I had no trouble feeling the pain and sorrow that Paige and Sam was going through.  Riley’s girlfriend has so much to deal with from her brother to her boyfriend being blamed for the murder.  I really enjoyed learning more about the team, the struggles of both Sam and Paige. You have no doubt how he feels about her but is still able to keep his professionally and private live separate.  The plot is wonderful very thought out with great details that really add to this series. The characters are wonderful with depth and meaning. Heck you even feel sorry for Lonny but mostly for his sister and what he did to her. The author really pulls on your heartstrings in so many ways. The ending is exciting leaving you holding your breath waiting to see how comes out alive. I truly enjoyed this addition to the malice series and can’t wait to see where the author takes it.

Summary

Her capture by serial killer Todd Thames six months earlier has left FBI Special Agent Paige Carson with a permanent physical injury that severely impairs her ability to function in the field. While Paige is battling fears of losing all she has come to hold dear in the new life she has made with her squad and with Sam, her boss and the man she loves, she and Sam investigate a murder that fellow agent Riley has been arrested for committing.

Special Agent in Charge Sam McKade feels a helplessness he's never known before as all he can do is watch Paige struggle to pick up the pieces of her shattered career--a career that his superiors believe would now be better suited behind a desk. Sam is in a fight to keep Paige in his small squad and in his life. When Riley is arrested it's the last thing Sam needs, but all is not as it seems. Sam discovers that this recent homicide is linked to the eight-year-old murder of former Special Agent in Charge Martin Hendershot. The unsolved murder of Sam's predecessor has long weighed on Sam and he will not rest until the killer is apprehended.

As the investigation intensifies, Paige and Sam learn that the killer has chosen another target--and time is running out before he kills again
