I thought this was a very intriguing mystery that really held the listeners interest. There were things I never saw coming and parts that really are mind blowing.  Some parts are very believable where a few I am not sure of. What really matters is the author and narrator work together to make this a very entertaining read.  This is a sad and at times depressing story that is full of mystery, kindness, love, hate, along with lots of junk. Ones person junk is another man’s treasure there is no doubt about this. My heart really went out to this adorable mentally ill hoarder as the town goes against him for reasons of their own. The neighbors are something else even though they have a valid point I just thought a few were over the top and should see the end side of a jail cell for a few days.

Ms. Tedesco did an OUTSTANDING job of narration from the character voices down to their emotions. You are never left guessing what everyone is feeling. Audrey’s father who had a stroke and a speech problem the narrator did a wonderful authentic job of his voice.  I loved how her voices all blended together naturally giving each character their own personality that worked well with the story. I felt each complimented the other why pulling you in giving you a story you couldn’t put down. I did not hear any background noises or any repeats of words. What the narrator delivers is a wonderful clean, clear crisp audio. The audio volume is even throughout with no high or low places. If any breaks were taken I could not tell. I loved the emotion Ms. Tedesco puts in her voice never leaving you guessing what each person is feeling from anger to happiness she hits each one right on the mark. This is the first time I have listen to her and can’t wait to listen to more of her work. Her voice is very pleasant pulling you in painting a picture you can see in your mind as each scene unfolds giving you a wonderful compelling listen.

When one sale goes bad Audrey is left holding the bag as one customer shows just how unhappy she is with their transaction by going on the social media dragging her name through the mud. With no jobs coming she has to take on a hoarders house to try and find things of value to not only pay herself but to help a dear old man get the help he needs. The author really goes into details of just how bad a hoards house looks. It really blew my mind but at the same time I know people live this way. I had no trouble picturing each room and hallway filled with just a very small place to walk. When you add mental illness to the sweet old man you just can’t help yourself for the feelings and the pull on your heartstrings. As they hit gold the path only leads to dirt as things happen to keep them from getting through the mess.  The story really has a few stories inside its self that really pulls the reader in. The mystery of who, why really gets to you when you find out the reasons behind it. The BIG mystery will blow your mind it makes you wonder if more than one didn’t have metal issues. There is a love story in here that is one step forward and a few back until Audrey gets her mind made up. Oh she has her reasons but you wonder if it isn’t more fear than anything.  There are great supporting characters that really add so much to the story. Along with some major facts about hoards and health issue they bring with it. It really opens the reader’s eyes to just what a major problem this is for many reasons.  The ending is just lovely as you see how everyone is doing and just what happen to the hoarder and his family.

I was really hooked for the most part throughout this listen.  The author gives you major twist that you won’t see coming as well as a compelling listen that really gets you right in your heart. I could really feel the characters pain. It really was a very good audio that I had trouble putting down. This is the first book I have read/listened to by this author. I am really looking forward to checking out more of her work.

Summary
What lies buried in a hoarder’s house—
precious treasure or ghastly secrets?

One moment of misguided generosity throws estate sale organizer Audrey Nealon’s life into turmoil. She loses a client’s money, cripples her budding romance, and witnesses a murder. Strapped for cash, she accepts a questionable project: clearing out the home of a mentally ill hoarder who may have hidden valuable Civil War letters. What really lies at the bottom of twenty years’ worth of collected buttons and antique dolls and stuffed owls and atlases? As Audrey digs through the hoarder’s obsessions, she unleashes a vengeful response from all sides--the hoarder's angry neighbors, his alienated family, and the police. The house has destroyed lives in the past. Will Audrey and those she loves--her friends, her father, and even her dog--be its next victims? As the final twist reveals, secrets can remain buried, but they never disappear.
Fans of Spencer Quinn's Chet and Bernie mysteries will enjoy this novel's mix of romance, mystery, humor, and dogs. Treasure of Darkness is a top-rated Kindle Unlimited mystery.
