Whisper of Desire (The Disgraced Lords #4)
by Bronwen Evans

My Review

Fear is a very dangerous thing and comes in all shapes and sizes and usually has something to do with our childhood. Both Marisa and Maitland have fears that have been feed throughout their life. Now they must meet them head on as they face an enemy who plans to bring down Maitland and his friends for what their fathers have done. The author gives a very touching and heartbreaking read of two people who were caught in a compromised situation which lead them to marriage. Now they must learn to deal with their fears and find away to make the marriage work.

Marisa is a very free spirit woman for this time period. She will not be kept in a box and turn her head. She believes in taking the bull by the horn and let things fall where they may. There is a madwoman out there trying to take down her family. She will not set by and do nothing, as they make a stand the women is two steps ahead of them. Marisa will gain but lose much as the hunt is on for the women who wants them all taken out and destroyed. I loved Marisa she is a very likable character she is headstrong and bullheaded. She is a very passionate that at times would make a person blush. She has to work out what Maitland problem is he wants her but he doesn't. He is driving her mad and this must come to a head.

Maitland has a past he is dealing with he must always be in control in and out of the bedroom. This hasn't been a problem until Marisa now he is about to lose all control. He father was a madman, he does his best to be a better man than he was. He keeps to a schedule to not let the enter beast he is sure is in him out. He must marry, he must have a son, Marisa seem like the best women sweet, kind and gentle. That is until the I dos are said where he finds she is driven in Passion. Not only is he running from a madwomen but his wife as well. He must face his fears before he can have any kind of life with his wife.

This was a story I had trouble putting down I even stayed up until 2 am to finish it. I enjoyed it so much that I bought the rest of the books in this series. For the most part I found this to be a believable story but at times I thought it might be a little over the top of what is expect and I feel sure is the way of women back in this period. I could be wrong lords knows I have been. It does make this one hot passionate read which adds so much to this story. This is the first I have read by this author and I am so looking forward to reading more. It is a standalone but does talk about past things from the books before. If you are like me you will want to know what they are. This does have a HAE but it is heartbreaking that one madwoman gives so much and takes so much away. I cannot wait to find out who she is and why she is doing this. If you are looking for a read that is highly entertaining with wonderful characters you have found it. This is one author that starts and end with a bang taking you through a well written read you will not be able to put down. She make you feel all warm and fuzzy as she shows you what real life is all about which will leave you sad at the same time.

Book Description
Sensual heat melts the ice in the new Disgraced Lords novel from USA Today bestselling author Bronwen Evans, as a marriage of convenience leads to delightful pleasure—and mortal danger.

Lady Marisa Hawkestone’s nightmare is just beginning when she wakes up naked, with no memory of the night before, lying next to Maitland Spencer, the Duke of Lyttleton—a man so aloof and rational he’s nicknamed “the Cold Duke.” A scandal ensues, in which Marisa’s beloved beau deserts her. As a compromised woman, Marisa agrees to marry Maitland. But on her wedding night, Marisa discovers the one place the duke shows emotion: in the bedroom, where the man positively scorches the sheets.

Taught from a young age to take duty seriously, Maitland cannot understand his new wife’s demands on his love and affection. Marisa’s hot-blooded spirit, however, does have its attractions—especially at night. In retrospect, it seems quite silly that he didn’t marry sooner. But being one of the Libertine Scholars requires constant vigilance, even more so when the enemy with a grudge against his closest friends targets Marisa. Now Maitland must save the woman who sets his heart aflame—or die trying.
